This study presents the development of a prefabricated Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) unit system aimed at significantly enhancing constructability in solar-integrated building applications. Traditional BIPV systems often face challenges due to complex installation processes, extended construction timelines, and high maintenance requirements. To address these issues, this research proposes a prefabricated BIPV unit system, designed for pre-assembly in a factory setting and simplified on-site installation. Through a combination of alternative design reviews and expert consultations, optimal design solutions were identified and implemented in prototype units. These prototypes were tested for installation speed, structural stability, and energy efficiency, demonstrating that the prefabricated system could drastically reduce installation time and improve reliability. Key considerations for further development of prefabricated BIPV systems include ensuring modularity for easy replacement of solar modules, establishing robust connections between BIPV units and roofing structures, and optimizing insulation to prevent thermal bridging and condensation. Additionally, comprehensive testing of fire resistance, waterproofing, and thermal performance is necessary to validate the system’s resilience. Finally, an integrated economic analysis encompassing factory production and on-site installation should be conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the prefabricated approach. This study provides foundational insights into the prefabricated BIPV system’s potential for supporting energy self-sufficiency and sustainable building practices.
