Small-scale Buildings with a total floor area less than 500 m² account for approximately 85% of the total number of buildings in Korea. So, energy efficiency of small-scale buildings is becoming increasingly important to achieve the 2050 carbon neutral goal in the building sector. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction to establish building energy code of small-scale buildings by analysing design status and energy performance level of various small-scale building types located in central region of Korea. The characteristics of the building energy code by building types was analyzed in terms of building envelop, mechanical systems, electrical systems by performing building energy simulation of calculating total amount of primary energy use and energy demand. The design variables that have the highest impact on energy performance of small-scale buildings are the average U-values of the building envelopes and the COP of heating/cooling equipment.
